Hasbro boardgames roadshow weekend

The long Raya holiday weekend may be hitting us soon, but that shouldn’t stop us from gaming right? Especially for the likes of us that don’t need to celebrate the festivities!

Well, how about heading out and checking in with Hasbro Malaysia’s boardgame extravaganzas, in Sogo Kuala Lumpur, The Curve (in Petaling Jaya) and the Mid-Valley Megamall, this weekend?

In conjunction with the school holidays, and over three weekends beginning this Saturday, 18 August, 2012, the Hasbro Games Roadshow will be held in major Klang Valley toy stores so kids can try out the latest gaming products.

Well, it’s not just kids mind you: looks like anyone can participate in the Bop It! Smash and Game of Life Adventures Games Challenge for the chance to win prizes worth a total of RM4,000. In addition, customers making qualified purchases of Hasbro gaming products during the roadshow will also get to participate in lucky dips for bonus gifts.

The Hasbro Games Roadshow will be taking place at the following stores:

- Saturday, 18 August: Sogo Kuala Lumpur, 11am to 2pm, and Metrojaya in The Curve 5pm to 8pm;

- Sunday, 19 August: Toys R Us in Mid-Valley Megamall, 11am to 2pm, and Carrefour in Mid-Valley Mall, 4pm to 7pm;

- Saturday, 25 August: Isetan in KLCC, 11am to 2pm, and Toys R Us in KLCC, 4pm to 7pm;

- Sunday, 26 August: Toys R Us, 1Utama Shopping Centre, 11am to 2pm, and Parkson 1Utama, 4pm to 7pm;

- Friday, 31 August: Parkson Pavilion, 11am to 2pm, and Parkson KLCC, 4.30pm to 7.30pm;

- Saturday, 1 September: Toys R Us, Empire Shopping Gallery, 11am to 2pm, and Parkson Sunway Pyramid, 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

World of Warcraft in the flesh (actually, cards)

Last week, I mentioned how The Star Online’s Carnivale event will be happening at Tropicana City Mall, Petaling Jaya, and yours truly has been given a spot to demo TCGs (trading card games) and its related ilk.

I’m just stoked that I’ve been given the chance to demo World of Warcraft (WoW) TCG and the new Blood Bowl card game alongside what should be crowd favourites: electronic games and cosplay appearances.

While I did previously post that I will be definitely be rousing up some card game demos along the lines of Magic: the Gathering and World of Warcraft, looks like I’m set on focusing on the latter, for the weekend.

So the deal is, I’m giving away a limited number (not telling how many!) of “home-made” 61-card “starters”. The only catch is, well, for you to sit down for a 15-minute tutorial, to have a taste on what the game is like. (Special thanks to i.Star’s head honcho Davin Arul for donating some of his cards!)

If you’re totally new to the World of Warcraft TCG thing, fret not! Why don’t you start by checking out Cryptozoic Entertainment’s official how-to-start web resource? Or, do check out the following YouTube videos, here, and here.

I’ll be there from 12 noon till 4pm on Saturday (Nov 19) and 3pm till 6pm on Sunday (Nov 20). Hope to see you there!

Game demos abound next weekend!

Feel like camping out in a mall, and learning how to play some TCGs (trading card games), boardgames and standalone card games?

Next weekend will see The Star Online’s Carnivale event running at Tropicana City Mall, Petaling Jaya, and yours truly will be kicking up some demos and free frags right there!

I’ll definitely be rousing up some card game demos along the lines of Magic: the Gathering and World of Warcraft, both of which are probably the most popular and awesome TCGs around.

If you prefer something as fun and exciting, but without the collectability factor, I do have the Blood Bowl: Team Manager – The Card Game, which is an awesome new standalone game, playable straight out of the box.

Older gaming enthusiasts would recall a similar miniatures game, also known as Blood Bowl. Yeah, this is one and the same, with FFG giving the old classic a new revamp, turning it into a fast-paced hour-long (give or take 15 minutes) game.

For more info, do check out the Boardgamegeek.com entry, and the official FFG home page with downloadable rules and tutorial videos, if you haven’t already.

I’ll be there from 12 noon till 4pm on Saturday (Nov 19) and 3pm till 6pm on Sunday (Nov 20). Let’s play, shall we?
