More celeb news

WHAT would our lives be without some weekly dosage of crazy celebrity news? Absolutely, pretty boring. Well, it’s a good thing then that the Hollywood folks have been busy and the celebrities have given us plenty of things to talk about this time around. Here’s a roundup on what’s been going down in Tinseltown recently.

A new territory
Taylor Swift is trying to prove that she’s not just a guitar-slinging young gal singing about boys and heartbreaks. The 22-year-old singer is all set to prove her acting chops and has signed on to play legendary folk singer Joni Mitchell in Girls Like Us. She did make her acting debut in Valentine’s Day, though it was nothing to shout about.

Although rumours were already swirling back in April that Swift was seriously eyeing the job, the movie’s producers didn’t officially hand her the part until recently.

The movie will revolve around the life and career of singer Mitchell, as well as her fellow performers Carly Simon and Carole King.

Sharm says: Taylor as an actress? Sorry, but I don’t buy this new gig at all. Don’t hold your breath for an Oscar nomination, I say.

Back in trouble
Will Lindsay Lohan’s personal drama ever end? Guess not. The actress was rushed to a hospital in New York City last weekend and one of her reps told gossip blog X17online that the emergency was due to an asthma attack.

The rep also added that, “Lindsay was treated and released, and is doing fine.” There are several reports claiming that the 26-year-old actress is trying to get out of shooting Scary Movie 5 by feigning illness. Lohan was overheard complaining about suffering from a case of walking pneumonia, and this recent trip to the hospital only supports her claims that she was too ill to work.

Sharm says: Want to get well, LiLo? Quit your partying ways and get some sleep.

A heavy issue

Lady Gaga was recently criticised for her weight gain – she reportedly gained 25 pounds (11.3kg) – but instead of shying away from the limelight or hiding her bigger frame under baggy clothes, she did the total opposite.

Mother Monster posted some photos on her website LittleMonsters.com and showed off her “new” body and tattoos in just her underwear.

The 26-year-old singer captioned the photos as: “Bulimia and anorexia since I was 15. But today I join the body revolution. To inspire bravery. And breed some compassion.”

Sharm says: OMG, I wonder what people have to say about the extra 30kg I’ve been carrying around all my life?

New couple alert
As much as it is difficult for people to imagine that Simon Cowell actually has a love life, he does. And it is rumoured that he is now seeing Carmen Electra, yes, the former Baywatch beauty.

The unlikely couple (how did they even hook up?) were snapped in each others arms after leaving a restaurant in Hollywood. A couple of days ago, the were seen on another day and a source for In Touch Weekly said that: “They were really into each other. At one point, they were talking real close, and he leaned in and kissed her. They started making out!”

Electra had appeared as a guest judge with Cowell on Britain’s Got Talent and a few months later, dumped her fiance Rob Patterson. When asked at the time why Electra was chosen as the guest judge, Cowell, who’s the show’s producer said, “She has the best set of … teeth I have ever seen.”

Sharm says: Think they will last? I’ll give them three more weeks.

Back together?
Twilight fans, breathe. It is rumoured that Robert Pattinson is willing to forgive Kristen Stewart and give their relationship a second chance. Although, it was reported that Pattinson has a long list of rules for Stewart to follow if she wants to get back with him.

It’s said that rule number one is that Stewart will never see or speak with her Snow White and The Hunstman director Rupert Sanders (whom she had an affair with). Secondly, she must be accompanied by someone when she’s meeting people without Pattinson and thirdly, they must have regular date nights and calls when apart.

Sharm says: Okay, what kind of crazy mental prison has Rob designed for Kristen? I hope this list is not true.

Can you handle the truth?

JOAN Rivers is one heck of a loud and obnoxious woman. She is also brash, insensitive and often times downright annoying.

But I love her to bits.

Every time I watch an episode of Fashion Police on E! I can’t help but think “OMG, this makcik is awesome!” She simply is.

There are many people who dislike the loud-mouthed TV veteran – and they all have valid reasons for that – but somehow, there’s something about the 78-year-old entertainer that is, well, entertaining.

* Joan *

That may simply be because she speaks the truth – the ugly truth that people secretly think but don’t say out loud, either because they’re too nice or they don’t want to be perceived as being rude.

A couple of days ago, there was a re-run of Fashion Police’s special episode on the Emmy Awards. During the show, Joan spoke of how annoyed she was with Glee star Lea Michele. Her choice of words were slightly offensive, but it was honest nonetheless.

It’s no secret that there has been several reports of Lea’s diva attitude on and off camera, but no one has called her out on it … until now.

The Fashion Police host called Lea “a girl with a huge ego” and even cracked this joke about her: “What is the difference between a cow and Lea Michele? A cow knows its s*** stinks.”

Ouch!

This “feud” started when Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland guest-hosted Fashion Police recently and she imitated (on Joan’s insistence) Lea’s signature pose during red carpet events.

The pose was dead on and everyone on set laughed, but Lea apparently created a huge fuss over the teasing later on and demanded an apology.

There’s no way a veteran comedienne like Joan would give in to the whims and fancies of a newbie star, and instead of apologising, she just basically told the younger girl, “bring it on, b****!”.

Joan is gutsy and we need more people like her in real life and on television but thankfully, she is not the only truth-dispensing, hard-talking and sometimes, rude TV personality out there.

We also have Simon Cowell – the man thousands of people want to slap for all the mean things he’s said on American Idol and now X-Factor US.

Simon is cruel in his criticism and harsh with his words but like Joan, he often gets away with his “mean” persona because of his sense of humour – however dry it may be.

How many times have you heard something from Simon (when he’s criticising a contestant) and said, “OMG, that’s exactly what I thought!”?

Well, he may convey his message with fancy English terms that mostly only Britons understand, but the underlying truth in them are undeniable.

Simon just says the things that we want to hear and sometimes, he tells the things that we agree with.

* Simon and Paula *

Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson (the other judges he’s worked with before on American Idol), however, would usually say the exact opposite of what Simon says. Now, it seems X-Factor’s Nicole Scherzinger and L.A. Reid are being just like Paula and Randy, too.

Simon is not the only hard-talking guy on television out there.

Taking the top spot in ultimate rudeness on television are Masterchef US judges Joe Bastianich and Gordon Ramsay. If you have seen them on that show, you’d know what they are all about.

While Joe is just a hard-to-please man, Gordon on the other hand is a hard-to-please, grumpy, foul-mouthed man. And they’re both awesome!

* Tough-talking judges *

In a recent Masterchef episode, Joe reprimands a contestant for not paying attention during judging and he just basically tore the contestant a new one. But that’s not the worst the audience has seen him at.

Remember the time when he threw a contestant’s presentation meal into a dustbin just because it wasn’t up to his expectations? The presentation was indeed crappy and Joe was just telling the truth.

That was during the first season of the show and Joe’s act cemented the fact that he’s a no-nonsense tough judge.

Well, even tougher than Joe is Gordon, who curses his way through the kitchen – not only in Masterchef but also during his other cooking show Hell’s Kitchen, and is most probably on many people’s “hate list”.

His demeanour is menacing and it’s obvious that contestants scramble to get on his good side for fear of having their heads chewed off by the crazy Briton when they make mistakes.

Yeah Gordon is difficult, crazy and downright mental but at the end of the day, just like Joan, Simon and Joe, he does what many can’t do. He tells the truth whether one likes it or not and that’s a tough job to do.

Now if only everyone else would follow suit …

Sharm says: OMG, can you imagine Joan, Simon and Gordon judging a show together? I’d die if that ever happens.
