Calling all talented young writers: we want YOU to be a part of Malaysia’s awesomest youth journalist programme – with parental permission, of course.
That’s right, kids – BRATs is back! For the uninitiated, we select around a hundred 16 to 19 year olds for one of three camps held in super cool locations each year. In 2014, we brought the party to Ipoh, Malacca and Langkawi!
And if you haven’t been following us, here’s a quick #throwback: Our last batch of BRATs from Raub got to relax (well, not really) in the luxurious Casabrina Resort, hang out with elephants and take a walk (ride?) on the wild side in the back of a pickup truck.
This time, we’re headed to the land of pineapples and dugongs: Johor! And you wouldn’t want to miss this – we’re ALWAYS looking to top our last camp.
It’ll be an action-packed four days with workshops conducted by journalists from The Star, where you’ll learn everything you need to know about journalism, from videography and photojournalism to interviewing and writing skills!
Then, we’ll take you out on exciting assignments around town, where you’ll test out your new skills by sniffing out interesting stories under the careful supervision of senior BRATs and the R.AGE team.
It doesn’t end there – you’ll be producing articles, photos and videos to be published in The Star! Interested? We know you are.
To sign up:
1. Download the application forms at rage.com.my/bratsrecruitment.
2. Write an essay on “Why I want to be a journalist” in less than 1,000 words.
3. Email the completed forms and essay to us at brats@thestar.com.my.
And to the people of Johor: you’ve been warned. The BRATs are coming.
Tell us what you think!
