THERE’S something about China’s fashion scene that is so interesting. It is not quite as edgy as Japanese fashion, though certainly as thriving. That said, Chinese fashion is not exactly what one would consider “conservative” either.

Last week at the China Fashion Week in Beijing, local designers took to the stage to showcase their brand new pieces for the spring/summer 2011 collection. Their structured, assymetrical and bold designs were the talk of the global fashion town.

Feathers and ruffles were all around, while hemlines ran from micro-mini to floor-length maxi. Muted colours like grey, navy blue, beige and even white took centre stage, with hints of bright red and yellow popping up at least once in each collection.

Embrace the future

A futuristic-looking jacket that is similar to designer Qi Gang’s design is a great piece to own. It is edgy, and can be seen as casualwear or formal when paired with the right shirt and pants. It cinches at the waist perfectly, creating a slimmer look.

Business and party

This flirty dress is part of designer Jason Wood’s jeanswear collection, but you can’t really tell that the whole thing is made from denim what with its flowy skirt moving about so smoothly.

Wearing denim from head to toe is not a good idea, but if you have any-thing that looks like this, then go for it.

Face-off

Every decade, the outfits with the big photographed faces on them come back, each time giving off a different vibe through re-worked designs.

Designers and siblings Wu Xuewei and Wu Xuekai have put multiple pictures on their multi-tiered dress, which is pretty funky if worn to the right event.

However, what’s great about this outift are those metallic “claw-shaped” ankle boots!

Vamp it up

I really adore the SCFashion’s upcoming collection by Qi Gang. This long black vest with feathers on the lapels, covers a skimpy red mini just perfectly. It’s a very sexy look, especially if you complete it with red fingerless gloves!

Simple elegance

Simple? Yes. Fabulous? Definitely. You don’t have to be loud and flamboyant to be considered fashionable – a simple look like this one by Eachway Zhao Huizhou will do the trick.

The see-through blouse is embellished with silk taffeta patches, while the pleated shorts come with a band that’s wide enough to hide holiday bulges. It’s an elegant look to experiment with at late afternoon parties or just a casual get-together among friends.
