KATY Perry wants her Malaysian fans to know that she kissed a girl and nothing else.
At the MTV World Stage 2010 press conference last Saturday at Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa, Selangor, Katy noted that the Malaysian version of the song doesn’t tell the story in its entirety.
”I just want all of you to know that the song goes ‘I kissed a girl’,” said the 25-year-old singer during her second visit to Malaysia. The outspoken singer stressed that the ”I kissed *censored*” version played on the airwaves here sounds cheekier than the actual lyrics.
”It sounds naughty doesn’t it?” Katy asked a roomful of journalists and fans, who clapped in agreement.
In fact, Katy made fun of the censored version of the song during the concert that same night by saying ”They think I kissed a what?” at the opening of the number.
She is a live wire, I tell you … and she definitely knows how to put on a good show for her fans — on and off stage.
Dressed in a leopard print minidress, Katy stood tall in four-inch heels (something she says that she is learning to love) and long dark locks, looking absolutely stunning with flawless make-up.
When MTV VJ Sean from South Korea teased her for being so tall, Katy in a deadpan expression replied, ”Well, you are short.”
The singer admitted that she was not a fan of wearing heels during performances — as it is definitely not worth a broken ankle — but she is now slowly incorporating the look into her routine. She also jokingly added that none of them are as high as the heels on Bill Kaulitz’s (Tokio Hotel’s frontman) shoes.
The German rock act were as diverse as a band could get. Bill, who is known for his emo-goth get-up, worked the stage in an olive green jumpsuit, layers of eyeliner, chunky chains and fingerless gloves. His twin brother Tom, on the other hand, was in his usual hip-hop get-up which comprises cornrows, a scarf and baggy clothes. Looking ”normal” in the bunch were bassist Georg Listing and drummer Gustav Schafer.
When someone asked the plainly-dressed Gustav (he was in a white T-shirt and shorts) if he was ever inspired to dress up like Bill or Tom, without a pause he answered ”No.” That definitely got everyone in the room laughing, including the twins.
Bill then jumped in to say that that is exactly what is great about his band: ”Everybody gets to be themselves.”
A little more co-ordinated (in the way they dress, at least) were South Korean girl band Wonder Girls, who seemed quite nervous on stage intially but the emcees — MTV veejays Sean and Chris from Japan — managed to put them at ease. Sean asked if the girls could do the dance moves from their Nobody music video and they were more than pleased to oblige.
”Just wave your index finger, point at someone, clap, lift your leg and clap again,” said Park Ye Eun, as she demonstrated the simple dance routine.
When the emcee asked which of the act in MTV World Stage 2010 would the Wonder Girls want to work with, they replied, ”Bunkface.”
The trio, the local act featured in this year’s World Stage edition, were a laid-back bunch who just seemed happy to have been invited to the party.
”It’s really cool to be part of this event. We’re just happy to be here,” said lead vocalist Sam.
