HAVE you ever been in a situation when … you’re in a store and have just put together an adorable ensemble in the changing room, and your girlfriends go ‘wow’, ‘that’s hot’ and ‘you look great’?
Probably, many times. But how many times have you noticed your man quietly hanging around a distance away, averting his eyes and staring at the ground, responding with ‘fine’ or ‘okay’, when you ask him how you look?
When I think about the few times I’ve brought my man shopping (he generally isn’t a fan of this activity), I sometimes wonder if we don’t shop together is because I won’t like what he has to say about my outfit choices, or because he says it like he sees it.
For example, And even though I’d like to think that most of our boyfriends are not fashion experts – those board-shorts, t-shirt, baggy-pants wearing beings who spend no more than five minutes picking out a shirt for a wedding – their opionions still matter.
So, it can be quite upsetting when you pick out a gorgeous pair of platform wedges and your boyfriend goes, ”You can’t fake height”.
Just because my friend ‘A’ looks great in harlem pants, that doesn’t mean it’ll work the same way for me. I know that. Sigh!
I have heard that men come from another planet, and that’s why they don’t look at clothes the same way we do.
So, just out of curiosity, I asked several members of the opposite sex, just what they don’t ‘get’ about women’s fashion. Just for reference, ladies!
Accessories
”I hate accessories that take attention away from a woman’s beautiful features, like humongous earrings. I like a woman who is simple yet elegant; it shows that she’s confident of herself and doesn’t need add-ons to feel good about herself.” — Azrul Izzam
”I think accessorising is always good although I don’t really get the use of hairbands. And I think girls should just steer clear of facial piercing.” — Kevin Yeoh
Clothing
”I have a problem with the whole ‘goth-lala-emo’ look. You know, fishnet stockings, poofy black tutu skirts, ponytail tied to the side.” — Ian L.
”I can’t stand to see women in tights, with tops that barely cover their behinds. Sometimes there are even ‘intentional wedgies’ and visible pantylines at maximum exposure!” — Trevor Fernandez
”I don’t like the whole ‘Avril Lavigne- necktie’ look, and the colourful stockings. It is like they dressed in the dark.” — Sid Menon
”When a girl wears a headscarf and then pairs it with really tight clothes.” — Muhammad Asri
Hair and makeup
”Too much pink blusher, when they try to look like a doll.” — Sean Sing
Shoes
”Platform shoes — it’s just unnatural, like you want another set of floors underneath your feet.” — Muhammad Asri
