HOW would you like to win RM10,000 for your school? With The Star’s CHEER Foundation grant, you could do just that!
In line with our CHEER 2015 national cheerleading competition, The Star has decided to award three deserving schools RM10,000 each to help take their cheer teams to the next level. It’s the first time we’re doing this, and we’re super excited!
We’ve seen many wonderful, talented cheer teams over the years who’ve had to disband because they just couldn’t find the support they needed. We hope this grant will help avoid that, and maybe even bring an old team back into the fold!
The grant will be awarded to two existing CHEER teams and one brand new team.
So, if you’ve seen some cheerleading performances over the years and thought “Hey, I could do that if I had some funding and coaching!”, here’s your chance! With the RM10,000, you could be creating a CHEER team that could one day become champions of Malaysia.
To apply for the grant, you’ll first have to prove your team’s cheerleading awesomeness by sending in a one-minute video of your performing a routine.
If you want to form a new team, there are plenty of excellent cheerleading tutorials online for you to start out with.
But please take note – teams that attempt unsafe stunts in their videos will receive zero points. As always, safety is our top priority at CHEER.
In any case, what we really wanna see is your passion, energy and creativity! Cheerleading skills are only part of the equation.
Teams will also have to submit their academic results from last year’s final exams (we’re all about study-life balance), as well as a list of any previous cheerleading achievements by the school.
Last but not least, submit an essay telling us why your team deserves to get the RM10,000!
Here’s a breakdown of the selection criteria:
> Cheerleading skills (35%)
> Past participation/achievements (15%)
> Academic performance (25%)
> Essay (25%)
Each team should consist of at least 12 people, and all submissions should come with a letter of recommendation from the school’s principal, with his or her signature, and on the school’s official letterhead.
Are you ready? It’s time for you to make school history!
Tell us what you think!
