Nevertheless, year after year, People magazine manages to do just that – choose one male celebrity and crown him the “Sexiest Man Alive” in its annual “sexiest” list.

This year, the magazine put Ryan Reynolds, the hot star of Buried and 2011’s Green Lantern right on top of that list, alongside actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, Patrick Dempsey and John Hamm.

Personally, I think it is about time that Leonardo got top recognition for his sexy self, but hey, that’s just me.

People started giving out the Sexiest Man Alive title to celebrities since 1985 (that’s 25 years ago!) and throughout the years, there had been some selections that were either mutually agreed upon by millions of readers worldwide, or totally dissed.

Some of its past “winners” include Mel Gibson (who was the recipient; don’t think he’ll be getting anymore now what with his many controversies), Matt Damon, Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt and George Clooney. The last two actors were even honoured twice!

It is a running joke between Brad and George over how they try to “overtake” one another in the race for the title.

In fact, at the recent Ripple of Hope charity dinner in New York, George graciously said that while he was very happy that Ryan it this year’s recipient, he was also glad that it didn’t go to Brad.

Well, to be honest, Brad and George do not need any more confirmation over how sexy they are and it is time that a new face takes over.

At 34, Ryan is already considered a veteran in the entertainment industry but his talent and good looks only became noticeable in recent years.

In the movie The Amityville Horror (2005), Ryan appeared in one scene chopping firewood shirtless, showing off his taut body and rippling muscles.

He bulked up and added more muscle when he played Deadpool in the 2009 movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and as a gorgeous assistant to Sandra Bullock’s character in The Proposal.

I still remember the actor as the handsome, mischievous guy from Two Guys, A Girl And A Pizza Place (yes, even before the title was shortened to Two Guys And A Girl).

While I always thought that Ryan was cute in the sitcom, it never occurred to me that he had a lot of sexy going on underneath that goofy act.

My, the boy has grown up to be a fine, young man indeed.

The Canadian actor looks more mature now, and no longer takes on the boy-next-door persona he had years ago.

In fact, the change in his image is pretty much parallel to the change in his career – Ryan has proven that he not only can act as a romantic lead, but also as an action star and a dramatic actor, too.

There must be a whole lot of sexy going on in the Reynolds household, what with Ryan’s wife, Scarlett Johansson, also topping GQ magazine’s “Babe Of The Year” list.

Wow, imagine the pressure a plain Jane or average Joe feels being around these two. Fortunately, from what we can see about Ryan and his wife on the Internet, they are not fazed by their good looks.

They just happen to be born with amazingly awesome and blessed features, and they are cool about it.

In fact, Ryan jokingly told People that winning the title wouldn’t change anything in the household and that he would still have to do chores around the house.

The only change he noted that the request would sound more like, “Sexiest man, take out the garbage.” Oh, and he also has a great sense of humour. Is this guy perfect or what?
