Liverpool have got a striker that has the talent to potentially erase Fernando Torres from their memories.

Luis Alberto Suarez, 24, cost Liverpool 23 million pounds, but he comes on the back of an impressive World Cup campaign with Uruguay (complete with match-saving professional hand-ball) and a 2009/10 season where he scored 49 goals in 48 games for Ajax.

I know they say this for pretty much every good finisher, but this guy really reminds me of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Give him half a yard in the penalty area, and he’ll finish it off – left-foot, right-foot, headers, volleys, half-volleys… He’ll put em all in the back of the net. And he has a deceptive turn of pace and the odd flash of skill to keep defenders on their toes.

His overall goal-scoring record for Ajax stands at 111 goals from 159 games over the last four seasons, and he’s had 12 goals from 24 games so far this term.

Found this compilation of 50 goals from him during his Ajax days. You’ll see what I mean about him. Great player. Congratulations, Liverpool fans.

(Though I must add that Mateja Kezman did arrive at Chelsea boasting an equally impressive goalscoring reputation, but yet he now finds himself, at 31 years of age, playing in the Hong Kong first division for South China)
