The new set brings new mechanics such as Living Weapon (artifacts that attach to creatures straightaway – kind of like auto-attach Equipment cards) as well as Battle Cry

IMHO, I think the set confirms what I already suspected post-Scars of Mirrodin: this block is a quite a hard bump down to Earth after the highs of the Alara block, the Zendikar large expansion and M11 Core Set.

Worldwake had a new Jace which has proved its weight in gold (and then some), but the majority of the rares for that set simply stank. Rise of the Eldrazi didn’t do much for players everywhere either, apart from a few standouts.

M11 rescued the Magic malaise a bit for me, but the new Mirrodin block so far has been underwhelming at best.

And like Utica Games Examiner’s Joshua Carlson, I think Wizards of the Coast got a bit lazy in designing the newer sets. Or perhaps uninspired. Check out the full article here http://exm.nr/fWjeJ3.

The jury’s still out on Besieged of course, and to be fair, these are very early days, with the full impact of the new set being felt only during the weeks to come.

But if the new set does not have enough of a wow factor to hook guys like me into buying more packs, it’s certainly looking grim, sales-wise.

I do hope I’m dead on wrong on this (as well as a number of my friends too!), but looks like I won’t be buying any more from the Mirrodin block for a fair bit.
