HAPPY New Year everybody! It’s a brand new year and guess what? The world hasn’t ended and that means we can still look forward to crazy, unbelievable and fantastic stories from celebrities in 2012.
Last year was pretty interesting but in all honesty, the celebrity stories were … how would one put it … “meh”.
Well, except maybe for that sudden Kim Kardashian wedding extravaganza/divorce hullabaloo, and Amy Winehouse’s untimely death.
It is never really interesting to read the same things about celebrities over and over again – it gets old easily.
There are only so many times we can read about the Kardashians launching a new product, or Justin Bieber making a surprise appearance somewhere, or Lady Gaga forgetting to wear clothes or Lindsay Lohan heading to jail … again.
For this week’s article, let’s forget about what the celebrities want to do in 2012. Let Sharm On The Scene tell them what we want to read about them this year.
Taking a sabbatical
As much as we say that we hate them and don’t want anything to do with this family, the truth is our lives would be totally boring without the Kardashians.
Yes, we claim that we dislike their TV shows but when we accidentally tune in to Keeping Up With Kardashians or Khloe & Lamar or Kourtney & Kim Take New York on Channel E!, we still watch them.
There is just something about this family that makes us want to know more about them … although if you think about it, there is nothing so special about the clan to begin with.
#in2011: They bombarded our living room with their endless reality TV show and spin-offs (they even introduced us to Spin Crowd which focuses on Kim’s besties – Jonathan Cheban and Simon Huck).
They forced Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event on us, making us take four hours out of our precious lives to watch Kim get married to Kris Humphries, only to have her file for divorce 72 days later.
#in2012: Let’s hope that the Kardashians will make an announcement that they’re finally giving reality TV a rest. Or maybe Ryan Seacrest should take Scott Disick’s advice and focus on the younger sisters – Kendall and Kylie – as the older gals may have just passed their prime.
What’s wrong with being normal?
How many of you still think that Lady Gaga is all about the gimmick? For someone who claims to be so focused on her music, she sure lets her clothes and appearance make more noise than her songs do.
#in2011: Lady Gaga’s Born This Way became the anthem for misfits of the world. For those who felt as if they didn’t belong anywhere, they felt at home with Lady Gaga and her hordes of “Lil’ Monsters”.
So much so that if you were a “normal” person, you weren’t accepted into this clique simply because, well, you’re not unique.
#in2012: Okay, how many of you want to see Lady Gaga in a pair of jeans, T-shirt and maybe sneakers? Yeah, this is what a “normal” person would probably wear.
If the singer is really genuine about representing everyone who wants to be themselves, then she should also give props to those who simply go about their lives in regular clothes. Not all of us are really into wearing dresses made out of meat, you know?
Act decent
When Pon De Replay hit the airwaves in 2005, people took notice of Rihanna. It also impressed music moguls like Jay-Z and Kanye West who then took the Bajan singer under their wings.
She went on to release more hits songs such as SOS, Umbrella and Shut Up And Drive, got in a scuffle with Chris Brown and proceeded to make headlines for her personal life instead of her music.
She emerged from the Chris Brown situation as a victim and eventually cut all ties with her ex-boyfriend and pursued to reach greater heights in music.
#in2011: The singer totally made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Somehow, Rihanna became more sexually charged and that was evident in her song choices, music videos and live performances.
Even the way she dressed every day was over-the-top sexy. The singer was linked to several men, namely Jay-Z and Drake.
Rihanna also got into another controversy after a magazine editor categorised her style as a “n***a b***h”.
The singer got angry, played the race card and the editor eventually resigned from her post. But did you know that Rihanna had many times referred to herself as a n***a on Twitter? *tsk, tsk*
#in2012: First up, Rihanna should show some respect and stop using any kind of racist terms on herself. Secondly, she should stun the world with a proper hairstyle and not one that looks as if she stuck a furry animal on her head.
Finally, we want to see Rihanna dressing more appropriately and not give the wrong message to young girls that it’s okay to walk on the street with half your bum (or crotch) hanging out.
Turn her life around
As much as we want to ignore Lindsay Lohan, we can’t. You know why? Because we all love a happy ending and want to see the day when Lindsay will start making movies and/or sing again.
She’s not a bad girl, really, and even though she has made some terrible mistakes, that girl’s time in Hollywood is still not up yet. Let’s hope she pulls things through this year.
#in2011: Everybody knows how and where Lindsay spent last year. She was either in a courtroom, a jailhouse, under house arrest, out shopping or doing janitorial work at a morgue in Los Angeles. She was also featured in Playboy, which didn’t sell very well unfortunately.
#in2012: Wouldn’t it be great to hear that Lindsay has cleaned up her act and is given a chance to star in a movie alongside A-listers such as Ryan Gosling or Johnny Depp or George Clooney?
Although Lindsay is a little messed up now, it cannot be denied that she was a pretty good actor once upon a time and all she needs is that one (more) chance to prove that she can do things right again.
Tell us what you think!
