MORE than a week has passed since the fanfare and the buzz has yet to subside for CHEER2014. And that is testament to the intensity of the teams and fans who showed up by the busloads at Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil on Aug 23-24, giving their all in the name of sport and keeping the excitement alive on social media.

The RAGE CHEER 2014 held at Putra Indo Stadium Bukit Jalil….

The Cyrens from SM Sri Kuala Lumpur – almost routinely – cranked up their performances to, once again, bring home the champion’s trophy in the All-Girls category for the fifth consecutive time. They now match the all-time record held by team Shirtliff of SMK Seri Bintang Selatan!

Sister team, Rayvens, were not about to miss out on the action, either. They, too, reclaimed their trophy in the All-Girls Junior category while the Zodiacs braced the odds to become the Co-Ed category champions for the first time in their history.

Indeed, on that rapturous weekend, CHEER 2014 was the place to be as the 8,000-strong crowd practically brought the roof down with their deafening support – only pausing to allow the teams to focus on their routines.

CHEER, celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, was bigger, bolder and more exciting than ever before with some interesting new additions this time round, thanks to co-sponsors SimplySiti and U Mobile.

Taking time off from her busy schedule, Malaysian superstar and founder of cosmetics brand SimplySity, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza graced the occasion with an appearance on the final day of the annual cheerleading meet to lend her support to the 35 participating teams.

The competitive spirit of CHEER also made a transition online with the launch of U Mobile’s U Cheer Off! contest, where teams were encouraged to gather online support to win the #CHEER4U Award and some amazing prizes.
