R.AGE Food Fighter I Am!
At the end of the day, you’ll realise everything you ever do in your life is just to make sure you get to eat. From the first day you enrolled in preschool until your first job, your goal is to make sure you get food for yourself and everyone you love. I am one who always remind myself that everything I do is for food so there’s nothing wrong in splurging a little extra for some good grub. RM30 shirt? No way! RM30 for lunch? As long as the food tastes good, I’m all for it! Food doesn’t discriminate, food doesn’t judge. Food connects people and usually the best type of people you’ll meet are foodies. Well, before I get all emotional over food, let me share my first time cooking with palm oil. I don’t usually cook dishes as I prefer pastries and dessert but there always is a first time for everything.
What I prepared was mashed potatoes with eggs and a drizzle of mozzarella cheese and I used palm oil for this dish because it has a lot of pros, health-wise. I am in a family with diabetes running in my genetics so sugar and carbohydrates are controlled (though I really love making desserts) so making mashed potatoes would mean that I need something to balance out the sugars. That’s where palm oil comes in as it helps to control the blood sugar level so I don’t have to worry too much about it. The potatoes (I used Russet potatoes) were soft and easy to the mouth, especially with the gravy. The gravy really brought a tang to the potatoes’ monotone with the fried onions lending a crispy and exotic flavour. The cheese merely is the piece de resistance. I might be exaggerating but what can I say, I love cheese wherever it is. This may be my personal opinion but the cheese completes the dish with its all-pervading cheesiness. In short, it was a good first try in making a dish like this and I look forward to preparing more but for now, I’ll stick to desserts.
