How many times have you watched a TV show and went “that lady sure reminds me of my mother”?
Well, I don’t know about you guys, but I sure do think that way every time Cow And Chicken’s mother pops up on screen.

Firstly, yes, I am referring to the animated TV series in which the mother is a fast-talking, out-of-this-world lady whom we’ve only seen waist down; and secondly, no, my mother is NOT a half-bodied freak of nature.

Let me clarify. It is not the physical resemblance that I see between the cartoon character and my mother (duh!), but the wacky, zany and absolutely crazy things they both say at the weirdest moments.

But enough about her already (sorry, mum). Let’s focus on some real famous mothers who share a lot of similarities with reel mothers instead. Check out this list, y’all.

Too many kids, too little mum
Reel: Do you remember Lois Wilkerson from Malcolm In The Middle? The frazzled mum had to care for five boisterous boys (with number six on the way), leaving her very little time to care for herself.
Real: Angelina Jolie has her hands full with six children, and sometimes you see her standing outside her hotel balcony with unkempt hair and dishevelled clothes. Can you just imagine the amount of yelling and screaming that goes on in the household during meal and bath times? No wonder Angie doesn’t have time to even brush her hair.

Mum with crazy husband and kids
Reel: There is no husband crazier than Homer Simpson, and poor Marge is not only stuck with him and his sloppy, lazy ways … she’s also stuck with his three kids.
Real: Sharon Osbourne has a wacky husband (Ozzy) and three kids with him. If you’ve watched the reality TV show The Osbournes before, you’d have witnessed just how out-of-control Ozzy and the two kids (their eldest daughter didn’t want to be part of that show) could get. Well, it helped that Sharon, too, has a wild nature that could keep up with all the wackiness.

Desperate mums
Reel: The women of Desperate Housewives are not only backstabbing, gossip-mongering and downright catty ladies – they also happen to be mothers. Bree Van de Kamp is uptight, Susan Mayer is unable to keep a man, Gabrielle Solis is a has-been model, and Lynette Scavo is well, just worn out.
Although there is always some drama in these ladies’ lives, their kids remain their top priority.
Real: Isn’t Gwyneth Paltrow a total Bree? Well, you should check out her goop.com website and figure out whether or not she is one of the most uptight and annoyingly organised celebrity mothers around.
Kate Hudson, on the other hand, is very much like Susan. They are both unlucky in love – hopping from one man to another in hopes of finding the right man for herself and her only child.

Now, who is a has-been model who tries hard to stretch her 15 minutes of fame? Erm, Kimora Lee Simmons, maybe. Well, she is successful on her own terms, but if you’ve been following Kimora: Life In The Fab Lane, you’ll get what I mean. Last but not least, to round up the desperate gang, Jennifer Garner is a total Lynette! I mean, she’s always photographed with wet hair, frumpy clothes and without make-up when dropping her kids off at school. But when it comes time to work, Jennifer cleans up pretty well.

Mum is always right
Reel: Who doesn’t know the matriarchal, possesive and overbearing Marie Barone, from Everybody Loves Raymond? She drives her two grown sons up the wall, and irritates the heck out of her husband and daughter-in-law.
Real: If there is one celebrity mother who never backs down and is always presumably right, it has to be Madonna. Come on, now. Do you think the Madgesty would actually let anyone tell her how to raise her own kids? Didn’t think so.

Best friend mum
Reel: Don’t you just love the mother-daughter bond between Lorelai and Rory Gilmore in Gilmore Girls? The two were besties before anything else and always had each others backs.
Real: Gwen Stefani and Nicole Richie. These two are so laid back in their parenting approach, that you can almost predict that they’re kids are going to name them as their best friend before anybody else.

Lunatic mum unable to control family
Reel: The world pities anyone who has to deal with Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian (not to mention their two half-sisters who are dying to grow up quickly) on a daily basis. Kris Jenner comes up with the craziest plans, gets herself and her girls into trouble and drives her husband nuts – as we can see from Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
Real: Kris Jenner, duh! This lunatic mum is never able to control the foul-mouthed Khloe, indifferent Kourtney or even get 12-year-old Kylie to dress properly. She’s a bit over-the-top and sometimes, you can’t help but think that she deserves what she gets from those kids.
