  • You are a young person living in Bangladesh who wants to further your studies and get a job. Would you make the right choices to earn a college degree, or end up like thousands of "student trafficking" victims before you?

Click start to begin the experience.

You're on a plane from Dhaka to Kuala Lumpur. As the plane takes off, you recall the conversation with the education agent.

"Hossein", he tells you, "you can work and continue your education in a good college in Malaysia." That was a few months ago. Your family took a loan of USD3,600 for the student visa application and the first year's tuition fee.
You bid your parents goodbye, and promise to finish your studies so you can find a job and provide for the family.

An agent picks you up from the airport, and he keeps your passport for "safekeeping". In the car, you look out the window and see a large sign: Welcome to Kuala Lumpur.
For every day you spend in Malaysia, you pay USD10 for rent, food, transport and more.

It's been a few months, and you suspect that the college is a sham. There are no college facilities, classes are infrequent, and students come and go as they please. You feel like you are wasting your time, so you have to make a choice.
    WHAT WILL YOU DO?
    • CONTINUE STUDYING
    • FIND A JOB
    • RETURN TO BANGLADESH
You choose to continue your studies. After all, you've promised your parents to come back with a college degree. During your free time, you hang out with your friends. There is a large Bangladeshi community who frequent the streets of Bukit Bintang, so that is where you usually eat and shop.

During exams, you are given an answer sheet and asked to copy it into a blank one, without writing in your name. The answer sheet will be submitted on behalf of students who don't attend college, but want to renew their student visa.
    YOU DECIDE TO:
    • CONTINUE STUDYING (USD 2,400)
    • FIND A JOB
    • RETURN TO BANGLADESH
    • APPLY TO ANOTHER COLLEGE
        (USD 3,000)
It wasn't an easy decision, but you decide to call it quits and return to Bangladesh without completing your studies. You have to pay for a flight ticket home.
    RESULT
You consider the debt that your parents took on to afford your studies in Malaysia, and opt to stay. You are determined to see your course through despite the low quality education you are receiving. After three years, you complete your studies but don't think you can find a well-paying job.

You decide to supplement your studies with a part-time job. After a few weeks, you manage to find a job in a restaurant that pays a minimal salary.

You hear rumours of fellow students being detained in immigration for working illegally, but you put it out of your mind. After all, lodging and food is expensive, and classes are infrequent.

You choose to stay on in Malaysia illegally. You are detained in an immigration raid, and spend the night in a cramped detention cell with 20 others. The next day, you are charged for overstaying without a visa. You are fined and forced to purchase a flight ticket to return to Bangladesh. They tell you that your name has been blacklisted and you will not be able to return here to study for a few years.
