Recently, Raffles International College Kuala Lumpur celebrated its 24th Graduation Fashion Show.
The final year students put on a great show and thanks to some swell photos provided by the establishment, anyone who missed this great show gets a second chance to check the beautiful designs out.
The theme “‘Visions… Inspiration from the past, living the present and creating the future” sure brought out the best in these students, and the show wouldn’t have been complete without awards given out to the best collections of the night.
Best collection: Convivial Jade by Mandy Yap
“I was inspired by the classical circus as seen in black and white TV in the olden days. I decided to take the challenge in making a minimal choice of colour yet presenting the whole theme into my collection,” said Mandy.
“The colour choice was green which is rarely seen much on the runway which I thought it was classic yet something new people would love to see.”
1st runner up : Renewal by Chow Yao Xian
“My inspiration was based on an architect Frank Gehry and his way of deconstructing buildings. The colour of my collection is black and printed fabric – fabrics used are chiffon with PVC and wool to create the combination of stiff and soft”.
“For technique, I tried to construct side seams to another part of the garments. And also create an illusion of having a second piece in one garment.”
2nd runner up : The God Complex by Sook Yee Lee
“The novel The Picture of Dorian Gray and the character’s contrasting double life inspired this collection. I was fascinated by how he was a respected high society man that had a secret life of opium dens, prostitutes and a decaying portrait that held his humanity.”
“This really inspired me to create this very interesting mix of clean, well tailored silhouettes with messy and deconstructed details.
Not to be missed either, are the brilliant designs by their contemporaries, who each deserve praise for their creativity.
