IF you’re tired of just sharing photos of animal abuse and wanna do something more, animal rescuer Darshana Chellaiah says it’s really not that hard to start your own independent animal rescue group.

Darshana says young Malaysians can help by running animal rights campaigns in their local communities. The goal would be simple – get all strays in your neighbourhood spayed and adopted.

“It doesn’t have to be (starting) an NGO. You can just start small with your local community. Start a Facebook group and run a spaying campaign in your neighbourhood to make it a ‘stray-free zone’,” she said.

But with so many independent animal rescue groups out there already, is there a danger of there being too many?

“There can never be too many,” said Darshana ruefully. “You can’t imagine the amount of cruelty towards animals that’s out there.”
